A Fine Management Lesson

Here below is a nice lesson.......

Old one but still interesting to read…

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops - a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well.

At the next stop, however, a big hulk like Pathan got in. Six feet four, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the conductor and said, "Pathan doesn't pay!" and sat down at the back.

Conductor didn't argue with Pathan, but he wasn't happy about it. The next day the same thing happened, Pathan got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the next..

This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Pathan was taking advantage of poor conductor. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff.

By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what's more, he felt really good about himself. So, on the next Monday, when Pathan once again got on the bus and said, "Pathan doesn't pay!"

The driver stood up, glared back at Pathan, and screamed, "And why not?"

With a surprised look on his face, Pathan replied, "Pathan has a bus pass."

Management Lesson:

Be sure there is a problem in the first place before working.

  1. On reading the ‘Management lesson’, I was reminded of something I read long time back regarding how we form opinions, ideas about people, about outcomes, etc.

A man was traveling in his car in the middle of a forest area, it was late night, and the car broke down. He was able to see a light flickering at a distance. He started walking towards the light and was fortunate enough to see a house. He thought, “I am sure, when I knock on the door, it will be opened by an angry fellow, who would scream at me for troubling him at this late hour and will bang the door shut on my face.” Therefore he decided, “Before he screams at me, I will do it.” He reached the house and rang the bell. Soon the door was opened by a sleepy-looking man and our friend screamed, “MY CAR BROKE DOWN…” He was silenced by a firm and calm voice, “Why are you screaming? I am not deaf. I understand your problem. I will be happy to help you.” Our friend felt totally ashamed. He apologized and explained what help he needed.

How often have you experienced such situations? How often you form negative opinions about people? How often you equip yourself to fight or give up even without trying in anticipation of a negative reaction?

Start making conscious efforts to ward off negative thoughts. Consciously make positive opinion about people even when your brain disagrees. Even when you are 100% sure about a negative outcome, firmly tell yourself, “Only good will happen.” Practice this, yes, you have to consciously practice this at every situation, all through the day, everyday. Soon you will find a remarkable change. You will become an immense source of positive energy. Nothing will go wrong around you. Believe in your mind power. Try this, right now, from today. You will be a winner.
